Our weekly timetable looks like this...

                       This  half term we are learning about...

        English  -Anna Hibiscus. 

                     We are learning about a little girl called Anna Hibiscus, she lives in Africa with her large family.

                     We will be using this story to mkae comparisons between Africa and the UK and look at some of the African traditions. We 

                     will also be using those comparisons to write sentences containing the word 'but'. The children will be writing comparitive

                     sentences about Africa, family and their bedrooms. 

                     During this story, Anna goes on holiday. The children will be learning about story writing and the elements needed when 

                     writing a good story. We will be looking at beginnings, middles and ends of stories as well as character and setting 

                     descriptions, which will add depth and depth to thier own stories. The children will then write their own stories about 

                     where they think Anna will go on holiday...

 

       Maths- counting in 2's, 5's and 10s.

                      Children will be learning to count in 2's, 5's and 10's, recognising these numbers and looking at odd and even numbers. The 

                      children will be looking at groupings of 2's, 5's and 10's also, in the eaarliest form of multiplication. 

 

        Science - weather and animals.

                       The children will be looking at signs of summer and wind direction. They will be conducting a pattern seeking investigation 

                       about the wind direction, using a weather vane which we have in school. 

                        We will also be learning about animals this half term. We will looking at vertebrates and invertebrates and also classifying

                        animals into their animal classes of mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians and fish. We will learn about the features of these

                        animal classes, so that the children can tell the difference between these classes. 

 

        Art - Watercolours.

                        This half term we will be exploring watercolours, the different marks they make, the shades and tones they produce and how 

                        to use water to achieve different strokes and patterns. We will also be looking at relief work using tape and wax crayons to 

                        give a harsh lines and marks into our paintings, to give depth and detail to our work. 

 

         History - Communication.

                          In History this half term, we will be learning about the history of communication, what instruments were used and how                                            communictain has evolved over time. We will learn about the invention of the telephone and its inventor Alexander Graham-                                Bell.

 

         Religious Education - Islam.

                          In RE this half term, we will be learning about Islam. What Eid is all about and why it is celebrated, the quran, mosques and 

                          particular artefacts that muslims use and value. 

 

 

                         Please also read with your child as often as you can and practise the links and QR codes that have been sent home as all the                               children in year one will participate in their phonic screening test this half term.
